Description
The 1850’s are considered the Golden Age of the Santa Fe Trail and the Golden Age of the Missouri River steamboat trade. During this decade freight tonnage carried by the caravans to Santa Fe reached its highest level to date, as did the number of steamboats plying the lower Missouri River from St. Louis to Port of Kansas (Kansas City).
