It seems that religious places, sacred sites, and cemeteries have long been minor chords in North American historical archaeology. In preparing this edited volume on the archaeology of religious sites and cemeteries, we as editors were interested in determining the degree of attention paid by historical archaeologists to two interrelated topics: religious sites and grave markers.
