As part of Arrow Rock’s preservation efforts and transformation into a Missouri State Historic Site, the town has promoted some of the first historical archaeological excavations in the state. The majority of the archaeological work has been sponsored by the Arrow Rock State Historic Site and/or by the Friends of Arrow Rock. Overall, historical archaeology in Arrow Rock has followed national research trends in the discipline which include I) a humanistic approach, 2) cultural resource management, and 3) anthropological studies.
