Description

Fort Clatsop was the wintering place of the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1805 to 1806. Geoarchaeological analysis seeks to locate the building site of the fort, and explain the various features found in the ground every time an archaeologists has excavated the area. The history of the landscape is being reconstructed, with special attention to the fire history of the area. Along with Roger Kiers, I continue to search for privies of the parties living at the fort, which will be located through chemical signature (phosphorus and mercury). Samples have been taken from coring, excavation profiles, and control locations.
