Description

In cultural and natural resource management, a CLR provides detailed, site-specific information that can supplement other resource management documents and describe the relationship between natural and cultural resources in a particular landscape. A cultural landscape report can be “the principal treatment document for cultural landscapes and the primary tool for long-term management of those landscapes” (Page et al. 1998:3). The four general kinds of cultural landscapes are ethnographic, historic designed, historic vernacular, and historic site. This report deals with the cultural landscape of the proposed Travelers Rest National Historic Landmark. Because of the Travelers Rest site’s association with the Lewis and Clark expedition, the cultural landscape is classified under the fourth category as a historic site.
