| Our learning center is organized to make it easier to research and find materials useful for understanding the varied aspects of the westward migrations. There is a vast range of materials and information about the West, but only some of this can be presented here. It is hoped that this will provide the basic information and encourage the door to be opened for deeper study. Some of the materials we have developed about the historic trails can be found in Classroom Resources.
The Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA) in association with Boston Productions is producing a 1-hour broadcast television program, "In Pursuit of a Dream," and series of short videos to be shown in schools throughout the country about what it was like to be an emigrant traveling West on a wagon train.
As part of our plan to fulfill our mission statement, we sponsor different specific programs that we encourage teachers and students to participate in. We have long known of the time and effort that educators spend teaching the westward migration and the impact it has had on our history.
Find books, maps and presentations on a wide variety of topics in the OCTA educational resource center.
Help us preserve our history with the latest news on OCTA's preservation activities as well as a host of training materials, manuals and briefs.
As part of its mission to promote education about the westward emigrant trails, OCTA invests a lot of its energy and resources to produce a wide-ranging set of quality publications. The Overland Journal is our scholarly, quarterly journal. News From the Plains is our quarterly association newsletter. Both the Overland Journal and News From the Plains are sent free to all members as a benefit of membership.
