Glenn Harrison is a retired high school and community college teacher. For five years he served on a school board, nine years on a city budget committee, seven years on the Oregon Education Association Association board, three years on the National Education Association board, four years on Oregon’s Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, and over eleven years on Oregon’s Public Employees Retirement System board.
Prior to becoming OCTA president, he was OCTA vice president for two years, an OCTA board member for three years, Northwest Chapter president for four years, NW OCTA vice president for eight years, and a NW OCTA director for two years. Glenn chaired OCTA Committee B for two years.
Having five Oregon Trail ancestors boosted Glenn’s interest in trails. He assisted with the some OCTA Conventions - 1993 Baker, 1998 Pendleton, 2004 Vancouver - and with COED. He has surveyed all the trail markers in the Northwest. He owns an extensive collection of trail-related books.
Glenn is also involved with several other historical groups. He is a member of the Oregon Historic Trails Advisory Council, the Linn County Historical Society (where is is past president, newsletter editor, treasurer, and arranges programs). He is the treasurer of the Boston Mill Society (which assists in preserving the largest water powered mill west of the Mississippi). He chairs the Linn County Historical Museum Commission and is the vice chair of the Linn County Historic Resources Commission.
